This box will be seasonal and wont be offered during low fruits seasons like end fall, Winter and early spring.

Tips on Figs and Recipes

What a wonderful thing it is to learn how to appreciate this delicacy!

When I first tasted Figs, I didn’t really enjoy the texture.  Used with complementary food, I can now say that Figs is a fruit of the Gods and Goddess.

Usage Tip :  The shelf life of fresh figs is very short.  They must be picked fully ripe from the trees since they will not ripen well once harvested.  The season for figs is June to October, but prime is September depending on the seasons weather.  When you purchase them for the store or at the farmers market,  you need to used them for prime quality either the same day up to three days.  You might have one spoiled.  This is frequent.
Storage Tip :  Ripe figs are very delicate and highly perishable. Store them in the refrigerator in a shallow Tupperware bottom lined with paper towels and loosely covered with plastic wrap for no more than three days.
Recipe1
Figs and Goat Cheese in Prosciutto
5 Fresh Figs, halved, ends removed
3 oz Goat Cheese, chilled
5 slices Prosciutto, halved lengthwise

Put a small dab of cheese on top of each fig half, and wrap in prosciutto. The prosciutto is sticky enough that you shouldn’t need a toothpick or anything to keep the wraps together. Grind pepper over the top and serve raw.
Recipe 2
Fresh Figs with cheese and honey
1/4 cup honey
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
12 fresh figs
1/4 cup soft fresh goat cheese

Combine honey and pepper in a small container, stir to blend.  Start cutting the top of the fruit down in quarter stopping at 1/2 inch of the bottom to leave the base intact.  Gently press fig open, spoon 1 teaspoon of cheese into the center of each.  Arrange on plater and drizzle peppered honey over.  Enjoy

Tuberoses at the Market

We are so happy to be introducing FLOWERS.  We are currently only re-selling flowers that fit into the Harvest Box: smaller, local, organic and heirloom flowers that will fit perfectly in a 16oz glass jar.  But this makes me think of this amazing flower tale...
While I'm on my break from working at BD's organic stand on the Tuesday farmers market, I shop and look quickly around.  Last week my love was for Tuberoses.  This amazingly powerful pungent flower stands on a stick.  It has many white, stronger looking flowers.  The scent lifts you up and puts a smile on your face.  There goes 2 minutes... If you can put one in your hair or anywhere for easy reach, you can then enjoy it for hours.  The scent of the flowers won't ask permission and will leave a strong and pleasant fragrance through the entire room for couple days.  You will surely want more of it.
Look for it, ask about it.  The season for them is short.

Shopping the Farmers Market this Saturday 8.21st

Customers!  What a chance you didn't have to deal with the NO PARKING situation this week.  The lot is closed for construction reasons!!! This is how our shopping started.
But!  Be assured it was an amazing morning.  Sarah and I returned all the produce boxes to their rightful farmers.  Like every Saturday!

I started shopping for add ons and Sarah went back and forth to different booths and picked up orders; Avocado, Grapes, Leeks.....  It was foggy to begin and then a beautiful morning sun took place.  Farmers were happy.  The produce is abundant.

I always love talking with Tessa & Robert Abbott from Hilltop & Canyon.  They have such a well balanced Hass Avocado.  We love this small Family Farm.

Then I spoke with Noa from The Garden Of.... We started talking about delivering Flowers!!! We are figuring out logistics.  It is on our Add ons this week for a try out.  Intro price at 5$ for a small bunch.  We will include it inside the Harvest Box hoping that this will keep them fresher then in a water bucket in the heat of a delivery car!!! Its a Try Out Period!  Then it will go to 8$/bu.  The chance that they will last is very good.  So.... Try them out and give us feedback:)

Hope you Enjoyed the FABULOUS quality of a local Celery.  VERY HARD TO COME BY!!!!
